Supporting education and innovation.

We aim to provide educational opportunities and empowerment for teachers from the most vulnerable and under-resourced communities around the world.

An estimated 44 million additional teachers are needed globally by 2030 to achieve universal primary and secondary education. Sub-Saharan Africa faces the most acute shortage, requiring approximately 15 million new teachers to meet this demand (UNESCO). This region also has the lowest percentages of trained teachers, with only 48% in pre-primary, 64% in primary, and 50% in secondary education.

Pakistan, too, faces significant challenges in its education sector. The country has a Human Capital Index (HCI) value of 0.415, lower than the South Asia average of 0.48 and comparable to the Sub-Saharan Africa average of 0.40 (The World Bank). This indicates a pressing need for educational reforms and increased investment in human capital development.

Let’s work together to enhance the chances of a better life for the most vulnerable among us. Talent is evenly distributed, but opportunities are not.

Our Vision

We Need Almost 44 Million More Teachers by 2030

The impact of a truly empowered teacher goes far beyond numbers. Teachers are role models, mentors, and community leaders who can create change that lasts for generations. Through 1MT Cares, we work to empower teachers globally, focusing on regions like Sub-Saharan Africa and Pakistan, where challenges in teacher education and access to quality teacher training programs are particularly severe.

As the international programming partner for the development of empowered teachers, 1MT goes beyond basic training. We provide pathways to job satisfaction and sustainable income, while offering teacher training courses, teaching certificate programs, and online teaching certification opportunities to expand skills and reach.

On July 6th, in Lagos, Nigeria, nearly 150 educators graduated as BlackBelt leaders, launching the groundbreaking Happy Teacher Philosophy course and engaging in a vital panel on AI in education. As educators step forward, embracing their power to inspire, lead, and create lasting change, we are reminded that the world needs their passion and skills more than ever. 1 Million Teachers, in its global drive to empower educators to deliver inclusive, gender-responsive education in under-resourced communities, has teamed up with 1 Book Africa Initiative. The latter aims to significantly reduce out-of-school children in Africa, particularly in Northern Nigeria, which has 60% of the country's total number of out-of-school children according to UNICEF data. This makes Northern Nigeria the world's largest hub for this issue.

The collaboration will leverage the multi-award-winning film KAKA as a catalyst for dialogue with key stakeholders and partners. This inspiring story follows a young girl's dream of becoming a nurse and her journey to educate herself to support her community. Her narrative intertwines with that of Mallam Habu, a dedicated teacher striving to educate every child in Duma village.
