Educational Exchanges

International Teaching Partnerships

We create opportunities for aspiring teachers at our academic partner organizations to participate in global knowledge exchanges. These cross-cultural teaching experiences are carefully designed to ensure an empowering, safe experience for all involved, with the focus being on the mutual professional development of partner participants and 1MT trainees. Among the trips we’ve facilitated is the Alternative Practicum, executed for the past several years in partnership with Queen’s University.

2019 Trip to East Africa

In 2019, the Queen’s University Faculty of Education undertook an alternative practicum in Tanzania and Rwanda. This month-long experience was filled with learning, discovery, and enjoyment for the exceptionally talented, hardworking, and resilient teacher candidates and faculty from Queen’s University. It also included the 1MT program development team and the teachers and students from the various schools where they collaborated.

2024 Mara Girls Leadership School in Talek, Massi Mara

Amidst the heartfelt welcome, the girls serenaded us (1MT Team and Queen's University) with a song, its lyrics weaving a connection that transcended language: “The love we have for mama is the love we have for you…” At that moment, we felt an indescribable connection to the spirit of MGLS, understanding the profound impact it had on these young hearts. It was more than an event; it was a shared experience of gratitude and hope for a brighter future.
