FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE: The Impact of 1 Million Teachers on My Teaching Journey

My journey with 1MT began in my third year under Dr. Madrine’s guidance, leading me to an intensive three-week course. This training equipped me with valuable teaching skills and strategies. When I was assigned to Gatondo Secondary School, I focused on motivating and supporting students, particularly in Mathematics and Geography. The positive impact was evident, and the students' improvement was heartwarming. The experience culminated with a surprise cake from the students, showing their appreciation and underscoring the transformative impact of the 1MT program.

From Pretend Play to Professional Passion - My Journey as a Teacher

Growing up, Nakambale arranged her mother’s flower pots and rocks like students, teaching them as if in a classroom. This passion led her to a career in teaching that she deeply loves, inspired by her aunt, a dedicated nun and teacher. Despite her nurse mother's encouragement to pursue nursing, Nakambale was drawn to teaching, earning a degree from Kwame Nkrumah University and returning to teach at her alma mater, Lwitikila Girls Secondary School. Seeking new challenges, she moved to Konkola Copper Mines Trust School, where she embraced the transformative 1 Million Teachers Black Belt program, which reshaped her teaching methods and professional growth.

"I love being a teacher and helping my students achieve their dreams. That’s my greatest aspiration," says Nakambale, a grade 4 teacher and proud 1MT Black Belt.

What Do You See?

This large crowd of teachers in Ondo State, Nigeria, with their smartphones accessing the 1MT learning portal fills me with joy and brings tears to my eyes. This is exactly what I did five years ago.

In 2017, I discovered 1MT through a Facebook ad when I was in a difficult period. After speaking with Arinze Ejiofor and exploring the 1MT website, I knew this was where I belonged. The first course, "The Heart of a Teacher," transformed my attitude towards teaching and gave me a sense of self-worth.

1MT opened my eyes to opportunities, enhanced my skills, and connected me with educators worldwide. I am now proud to be a teacher and grateful to 1MT for the platform and support. To the new teachers from Ondo State, embrace this opportunity and apply your knowledge in the classroom.
